Principal Manufacturing Engineer
(PCBA Manufacturing Engineer)
A PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) Manufacturing Engineer plays a crucial role in the 
electronics manufacturing process, focusing on optimizing the design and assembly of printed 
circuit boards to ensure efficient and cost-effective production. Here's a detailed job description for 
a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Excellence 
(DFX), and Design for Manufacturability (DFM), along with extensive knowledge of contract 
manufacturing practices:
Responsibilities:
1. Design Optimization:
• Apply Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Excellence (DFX), and Design for 
Manufacturability (DFM) principles to PCB layouts.
• Collaborate with design teams to ensure that PCB designs are optimized for efficient 
assembly and manufacturing processes.
2. Contract Manufacturing Interface:
• Interface with contract manufacturers to understand their capabilities, processes, and 
equipment.
• Provide technical expertise to contract manufacturers for seamless integration of PCB 
designs into manufacturing processes.
3. Cost Optimization:
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction in the manufacturing process while maintaining highquality standards.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to implement cost-effective design changes.
4. Yield Improvement:
• Analyze and address issues related to low yield during the manufacturing process.
• Implement corrective actions and process improvements to enhance overall yield.
5. Process Improvement:
• Continuously evaluate and improve manufacturing processes for PCBA assembly.
• Implement best practices to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and minimize defects.
6. Quality Assurance:
• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that PCBAs meet or exceed quality 
standards.
• Implement quality control measures to detect and address manufacturing defects.
7. Documentation:
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to PCB assembly processes and 
design guidelines.
• Ensure that all relevant stakeholders have access to up-to-date documentation.
8. Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Work closely with design, manufacturing, and procurement teams to achieve seamless 
integration and collaboration.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings to address issues and drive continuous 
improvement.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

• Proven experience as a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, with a focus on DFA, DFX, and DFM.
• In-depth knowledge of contract manufacturing practices and the electronics manufacturing 
industry.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to PCBA manufacturing.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with CAD tools for PCB design.
• Knowledge of automation and robotics in manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles.
