R&D Software Engineering Manager
Itron DEM (Distributed Energy Management) is the industry’s leading provider of integrated cloud-based demand response, energy efficiency, and customer engagement solutions that enable electric utilities to ensure grid reliability, lower energy costs, meet regulatory demands, and enhance the customer experience. Through its combination of software, hardware, and services, Itron DEM helps utilities optimize every aspect of a demand management program, from participant recruitment and device installation to call center support, control events, and measurement and verification.
Itron is seeking a Software Engineering Manager based in Budapest, Hungary to help manage software/engineering resources. The DEM team is split between Budapest, other EU locations, and all U.S. time zones. The DEM team is primarily supporting U.S.-based customers. A big part of this work is ensuring solid communication between the DEM teams and our customers. This manager directs those involved in all areas of the product lifecycle to ensure that the product is delivered on time and with quality.
We are looking for a manager with a software engineering or architecture background, but on the other hand, will not be an individual contributor.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver quality products in a timely fashion.
- Review and approve proposed architectures, technologies, and implementations for risk and feasibility.
- Lead a team of software engineers in professional development.
- Maintain an understanding of team progress and position people and work to meet product commitments.
- Coordinate analysis, design, implementation, and test of a large software system.
- Determine the scope of effort of large projects.
- Perform justification (cost-benefit analysis).
- Understand business objectives linked to the development and application of technology.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2+ years in technical team leadership
- Minimum of 3+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience working with Azure and containerization
- Understanding manual and automated testing practices
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, Elixir, or other programming languages
- Experience with Scaled Agile methods.
